Navigation Menu

The Navigation Menu appears as a hamburger icon in the upper left corner of the USP—NF Online screen. This menu lets you navigate for USP—NF/PF such as the New and Changed titles, Admissions and Annotated lists, General Chapters, Monographs, and Reagents documents.

Once you click on the icon, a drop down with several menu items appears which includes:

  1. Start here
  2. General Notices
  3. Stimuli
  4. General Chapters
  5. Monographs
  6. Reagents and Reference Tables
  7. Resources

 

NOTE: Compounding Compendium users have limited access to these menu and submenu items. Some items appear greyed out and are not selectable.

To exit this state, select the close button that replaced the hamburger menu or simply click off of the drop down:

 

Clicking on the hamburger menu reveals this drop down which contains several list items.

After you select a menu item, an explanation of that menu item and submenu items appear to the right.

Start Here Menu Item

Choose the "Start Here" menu item, and a prompt with a list of several items appear. Under this tab, you find a list of helpful documents to help you get started using the USP-NF/PF content.

General Notices

Select the "General Notices" menu item, and a prompt revealing the "General Notices & Requirements" list appears. The General Notices & Requirements describe the basic assumptions, definitions, and default conditions for the interpretation and application of USP-NF/PF content. This information is essential to understanding the proper use of USP-NF/PF content, and all users should read it before applying the information in the Monographs and General Chapters.

Stimuli

Select the "Stimuli" menu item, and a prompt revealing the list item with the same name appears. The "Stimuli" list item provides articles published to stimulate discussion and continual review of Pharmacopeial Standards.

General Chapters

The general chapters section provides guidelines on activities related to the tests and procedures in monographs. General chapters may contain descriptions of tests and procedures, general information on the interpretation of compendial requirements, or general guidance on official substances or official products. Refer to the General Notices under the “Start Here” tab for more information.

Monographs

This section contains a complete list of monographs associated with the USP-NF edition you selected. Monographs contain tests, procedures, and acceptance criteria to ensure the identity, strength, quality, and purity of an article. A monograph also contains the article’s name, definition, specification, and other requirements related to packaging, storage, and labeling. Refer to the General Notices under the "Start Here tab for more information.

Reagents and Reference Tables

The Reagents section provides the specification of all reagents used in the USP–NF. It contains instructions on how to prepare Test Solutions, Colorimetric Solutions, Indicators, Buffers and Volumetric Solutions. Also, it describes all the phases employed in chromatographic procedures.

Reference Tables contain informational text intended to aid compendial users.

Resources

The resources section contains external websites containing additional information related to the content found in the USP-NF/PF.
